What Market Watch shows

Four global sessions

Sydney, Tokyo, London and New York — open/closed status and hours at a glance.

Your timezone

Auto-detected from your browser, with a manual override saved locally. Display-only.

Session overlaps

See when London and New York (or Sydney and Tokyo) trade at the same time — often the busiest hours.

Exchange holidays

Configured full-day closures and early closes, evaluated in each exchange's own timezone.

Why session overlaps matter

Liquidity and volatility aren't spread evenly across the day. They tend to concentrate when two major sessions are open at once. The London–New York overlap is usually the most active window of the trading day, while the Sydney–Tokyo overlap drives the early Asian session. Knowing when these windows open — in your own timezone — makes it easier to plan around the hours that actually fit your strategy.

How market holidays affect trading

When an exchange is closed for a public holiday, the related currencies and instruments often see thinner liquidity and wider spreads — even if your Forex broker stays technically open. Market Watch flags configured exchange closuresfor each market, evaluated in that exchange's own local date, so a holiday in Tokyo is judged on Tokyo's calendar, not yours. It's a maintained foundation of known closures rather than a guaranteed-complete calendar.

How your display timezone works

The page detects your browser timezone and converts every session window, countdown and the 24-hour timeline into it. Prefer a different one? Use the selector — your choice is saved in your browser (no login) and applied immediately. The display timezone only changes what you see; it never changes the underlying market hours, which always follow each centre's local time and DST.

Guidance, not execution guarantee

Market Watch reflects the standard session windows for the major financial centres. It is general guidance for planning — not a statement of what your broker will execute. Forex and CFD brokers set their own trading hours, rollover times and holiday arrangements, so always confirm availability with your broker.

Frequently asked

What does Market Watch show?

Live open/closed status for the four major Forex sessions — Sydney, Tokyo, London and New York — with each session's hours converted into your display timezone, a 24-hour timeline with a current-time marker, the active session overlaps, and configured exchange holidays. It's session guidance, not a guarantee of broker execution availability.

Which timezone is used, and can I change it?

By default we detect your browser's timezone (shown as the display timezone). You can override it with the timezone selector at any time — no login required — and the choice is saved locally in your browser. Changing it updates every session time, countdown and the timeline. It only changes what's displayed; it never affects the actual market hours.

Are the market holidays complete?

No. We show a curated set of known exchange closures (full-day and some scheduled early closes) for the covered markets, evaluated in each exchange's own timezone. It is a maintained foundation, not a guaranteed-complete calendar, and Forex/CFD brokers may keep their own schedules.

Do the session times account for daylight saving time?

Yes. Session conversions use live, DST-aware timezone offsets, so London/New York hours shift automatically across the year. The Forex week (Sunday 17:00 to Friday 17:00 New York time) and weekend closures are respected.

Is this broker-specific?

No. Market Watch reflects the standard session windows for these financial centres. Individual Forex/CFD brokers can open, close or pause instruments on their own schedules and during their own holiday arrangements, so always check your broker for execution availability.
