Free Breakeven Win Rate Calculator
A free breakeven win rate calculator, no login required. Enter your average win and average loss — or a reward-to-risk ratio — and it shows the percentage of trades you would need to win just to break even, ignoring costs.
Inputs
Average size of a winning trade.
Average size of a losing trade (positive).
Breakeven win rate
33.3%
before costs
Reward : risk
1 : 2.00
reward per unit of risk
How it works
If your average win is W and your average loss is L (a positive magnitude), the breakeven win rate is L ÷ (W + L). Bigger wins relative to losses lower the win rate you need.
Expressed through a reward-to-risk ratio R, the same result is 1 ÷ (1 + R): a 1:1 ratio needs 50%, 2:1 needs 33.3% and 3:1 needs 25%.
Example calculation
- Average win $300 · average loss $150 (R:R = 2:1).
- Breakeven win rate = 150 ÷ (300 + 150) = 33.3%.
Frequently asked
What is breakeven win rate?
It is the win rate at which average wins and losses cancel out: breakeven win rate = average loss ÷ (average win + average loss). Equivalently, 1 ÷ (1 + reward/risk).
Does costs affect it?
Yes — commissions, swap and slippage raise the win rate you actually need. This tool gives the cost-free baseline; the expectancy calculator lets you fold costs in.
Is it free?
Yes, free and no login. Inputs stay in your browser and are not stored.
